What is a Namespace License?

An SAP namespace license key is a unique identifier reserved for your SAP installation. It is non-transferable and can only be used within that specific SAP system. Reserving a namespace authorizes you to obtain namespace license keys from the SAP Support Portal for your customer number. These keys are essential for developing enhancements and solutions without naming conflicts. Additionally, a namespace includes a development license key and a repair license key.

What is the difference between the development and repair license keys?

The development license key is used for making changes to SAP sources or dictionary objects. It is required when a registered developer modifies an object for the first time. The repair license key is used for repairing objects across subsequent systems and is necessary when a registered developer repairs an object modified by another developer.

How can I install a namespace license (development or repair)?

Use SE03 or SE09 (Transport Organizer) or directly access the maintenance view V_TRNSPACE using transaction SM30.

Editing Namespaces:

• In the view, relevant namespaces will be displayed.
• To create new namespaces, select “New Entries.”
• Complete the fields:
• Namespace: Enter the reserved namespace ID (starts and ends with a slash, max 10 characters).
• Namespace Role:
• Set to “P” for development (originals created).
• Set to “C” if the namespace has been imported (no development).
• Development License: Enter the 20-character development license key.
• Repair License: Importable into follow-on systems for repairs.
